Courtyard Shade

One of the simplest and most attractive methods to create shade in an open courtyard space is to install shade sails. There are no rules, each space is different, and a shade solution can be found with one or multiple shade sails.

Existing structural elements of the courtyard’s design can be used as mounts and additional free-standing steel posts should be used where possible to extend the coverage. Here we have over-lapped several sails in crisp white, which shields this courtyard throughout the day without closing in the space. In keeping with the original design of the area, white is a natural choice. In another space, a single soft or strong color or even multiple colors will help to create the atmosphere desired. Maintenance is as easy as it comes as shade sails must be taken down for winter months so that they are not damaged by heavy loads of snowfall.
